If you love mountains and mountain landscapes, Leutasch and Seefeld will be your paradise. There is no better place for walking, biking and hiking - on wide paths or steep trails, in gorges with gurgling water, picturesque mountain lakes and beautifully situated alpine pastures and huts - all of which guarantee breathtaking mountain experiences with panoramic views.
The Gaistal is among the highlights of the Leutasch Valley and caters to all tastes: a short walk along the Leutascher Ache river or a quaint hut hike - from the Hämmermoosalm via the Gaistalalm to the Tillfussalm - always along the “Ganghoferweg" path. More seasoned hikers might prefer the crisp and long hike along the Südwandsteig - the hike dotted with high alpine pastures starts at the Wettersteinhütte at 1,717 metres altitude and leads deep into the Gaistal to the Spartan "Steinernen Hüttl” via the Wangalm and the Rotmoosalm (2030m) - with excellent culinary delights and dream views on the way... The Gaistal is also a popular e-bike destination, with a trail that follows the natural streambed of the Leutascher Ache river and passes the beautiful Igelsee lake to the picturesque Seebensee lake. If you still haven't had enough, you can leave your bike there and continue on foot to the Coburger Hütte / Drachensee.
The 3 km long Klammgeisterweg ("gorge spirit trail") runs 800 m over a bold footbridge and leads along the 1.9 km long Koboldpfad (goblin trail) over the glacier slope into the Leutasch gorge. Even if only a few people have ever seen ghosts and gnomes, you stand a good chance in the Leutascher Geisterklamm... as everyone knows, trolls, ghosts and goblins like to hide in forests and gorges.
First, you head through the gorge gate into the forest, which will lead you into the mysterious realm of the gorge spirit: a 75-metre-deep gorge where it lives together with goblins and water gnomes. It’s best to observe their gurgling and bubbling water dwelling from the safe distance of the trail. After all, you never know...
Situated in the Karwendel Nature Park, you can hike directly from the car park in Länd in Scharnitz into the Hinterautal valley. Along the Isar river, the moderately inclined trail leads into the Karwendel mountains along forest paths and gravel paths. To the left and right, steep rock faces line the scenically stunning Hinterautal valley.
If you plan to cover the entire 15-kilometre distance to the Kastenalm, make sure to wear sturdy shoes or go by bike.
