We are all familiar with it: long days at the office, stress at home and a hundred other things running through our mind. More often than not, sleep ends up being neglected. When you're finally in bed, your mind just keeps working. In summer, the heat also adds to these sleepless nights.
So, today we have a simple tip for you to help you get a restful night's sleep.
Avoid unnecessary distractions: Do not bring your phone into the bedroom. If you use it as an alarm clock, just switch it to flight mode.
Instead of staring at your phone, pick up a relaxing book (no, specialised, work-related books don't count). Read for about 15 to 20 minutes and then turn off the light.
Now you should already feel a little calmer inside and can concentrate on the following breathing exercise. Lie on your back in a comfortable position, place your arms on your stomach and breathe in and out evenly. It is important that you exhale more slowly than you inhale. This stimulates your parasympathetic nervous system. As a guide, listen to your heartbeat. Try breathing in for three heartbeats and breathing out for five heartbeats.
Focusing on your heartbeat and breathing will also help keep distracting thoughts at bay. With a little practice, you should soon notice an improvement in falling asleep.
We at the adult hotel Karwendel hope you have a restful night's sleep!
